Articles of Faith

The Articles of Faith represent our fundamental beliefs. They serve as a statement of faith and provide a framework for understanding our denomination's theological perspective and practice. They serve as a unifying declaration of what we believe and are the foundation for our ministry and mission.

We believe in one God, who exists in three persons - the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit.

We believe in the divinity of Jesus Christ, his virgin birth, sinless life, atoning death, bodily resurrection, and ascension to heaven.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, who is a person and is part of the triune God. The Holy Spirit empowers believers to live a holy life and to bear witness to Christ.

The Church of the Nazarene believes in the authority and inspiration of the Bible, which is the written word of God. The Bible is the final authority for all matters of faith and practice.

We believe that sin entered the world through Adam and Eve's disobedience, and that all human beings are born with a sin nature. We also believe that individuals commit personal sins and need forgiveness and salvation.

We believe that Jesus Christ's death on the cross provides the only means of salvation for humanity. Through his death and resurrection, believers are reconciled to God and receive eternal life.

We believe in prevenient grace, which is the grace of God that goes before us, preparing our hearts to receive salvation.

We believe that repentance is necessary for salvation. Repentance involves a genuine turning away from sin and a turning toward God.

We believe that justification is the act of God declaring a sinner righteous based on faith in Christ. Regeneration is the new birth that occurs when a person accepts Christ as Lord and Savior. Adoption is the act of God receiving believers into His family.

We believe in the possibility of entire sanctification, which is a second work of grace that results in a believer being filled with the Holy Spirit and experiencing a life of victory over sin.

We believe in the universal Church, which is made up of all believers in Christ. We also believe in the local church, which is a community of believers who gather for worship, fellowship, and service.

We practice baptism by immersion for believers. Baptism is an outward symbol of an inward commitment to follow Christ.

We practice the Lord's Supper as a memorial of Christ's death and as a means of grace for believers.

We believe that God can and does heal people physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

We believe in the imminent return of Christ, when he will judge the living and the dead and establish his kingdom on earth.

We believe that all believers are called to be good stewards of the resources that God has entrusted to them. This includes their time, talents, and material possessions, which should be used to further God's kingdom and bless others.

Our Nazarene characteristics

These defining characteristics of the Church of the Nazarene and its members shape the church's identity and mission and provide a framework for its theology and practice.

We are part of the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition, which emphasizes the biblical teachings of John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, and the Holiness movement, which emphasized the importance of a life of sanctification and purity.

We place a strong emphasis on both personal and social holiness. Personal holiness involves living a life that is set apart for God and characterized by obedience to God's commands. Social holiness involves engaging in compassionate ministry and social justice to help those in need.

We have a strong commitment to evangelism and missions, seeking to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with the world and to engage in compassionate ministry to those in need.

We place a high value on education, with several universities and seminaries around the world. We believes in the importance of equipping our members with knowledge and skills to serve God effectively.

We emphasize the importance of active participation in worship, including singing, prayer, scripture reading, and preaching. The church believes that worship is a vital part of a believer's spiritual growth and development.

We place a high value on traditional family values, including the importance of marriage between one man and one woman and the sanctity of human life.

Our Nazarene values

These values help shape the identity and mission of the Grace of God Nazarene Chuch and guide us in living out our faith.

As a Christian denomination, we value the centrality of Jesus Christ in all aspects of our theology, worship, and mission.

We value the biblical concept of holiness, which emphasizes the transformational work of the Holy Spirit in a believer's life, leading to a life of obedience and love for God and others.

We value the call to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with the world and to engage in compassionate ministry to those in need.

We value the importance of spiritual disciplines, such as prayer, fasting, Bible study, and accountability, in order to grow in faith and holiness.

We value the diversity of cultures, races, genders, and backgrounds within its membership and seeks to promote unity in Christ.

We value showing the love of Christ to others through acts of kindness, mercy, and justice.

We value innovation and creativity in order to effectively engage with the world and share the gospel.

Our Nazarene missions

Within the Church of the Nazarene, there are key missions dedicated to fulfilling the church's vision and impacting lives.

Each mission plays a vital role in mobilizing the church, whether through praying, discipling, giving, educating, evangelizing, or equipping young people.

Nazarene Missions International (NMI) seeks to mobilize the church in mission through praying, discipling, giving, and educating.

NMI Objectives:

To encourage people to pray for all efforts of world evangelization
To inform people of the world's needs and what the church is doing to meet those needs
To challenge children and youth to learn about and participate in the mission of the church
To raise funds for mission outreach

Nazarene Youth International (NYI) is the youth ministry of the Church of the Nazarene. We exist because the Church of the Nazarene believes that young people are an integral part of the Church. Because of that belief, NYI is committed to leading young people into a lifelong relationship with Jesus Christ and to facilitateing their growth as disciples for Christian service. Together we work to accomplish a threefold strategy of:

Evangelism, reaching young people for Christ;
Discipleship, equipping young people to be Christlike followers;
Leadership Development, empowering young people to serve others.

Our NDI Purpose is fourfold:

To intentionally develop relationships with unreached people until they are Christlike disciples and making Christlike disciples.
To teach the Word of God until children, youth, and adults are saved, sanctified wholly, andmaturing in the Christian experience.
To help Christians grow spiritually, involving them in evangelism, Christian education, anddisciple making.
To encourage children, youth, and adults to enroll in Sunday School, small groups and/ordiscipling ministries, and faithfully participate.

Nazarene Kids' mission is to carry out the Great Commission to children and their families, and to train, encourage, and equip Christian leaders who minister to children in our district.
